In 2017, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation issued a four-year challenge grant to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, seeking to increase the impact of student workshops and tours. The grant currently covers admission and program costs primarily for New York City students and, on a capped basis, for students from New Jersey, Connecticut and New York State.
Thus far, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum has successfully achieved match funding for the current school year (2018–2019) but is still responsible for raising a combined $300,000 more for the 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 school years.

Off-Campus Programs
In 2018, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum expanded off-campus public programming, including initiatives through new partnerships with the Brooklyn Historical Society for a screening of Wolfgang Staehle’s video "2001," as well as with the New York Road Runners for a public program on the unifying power of sports after tragedy at the TCS New York Marathon Pavilion in Central Park. Look for these and more off-site programming in the future.

COMEBACK SEASON: SPORTS AFTER 9/11
The “Comeback Season: Sports After 9/11” exhibition opened to the public on June 27. It explores how sports and athletes helped to unite the country and console a grieving nation, and the ways in which they gave us a reason to cheer again following the 2001 attacks. SKYWALKERS: A PORTRAIT OF MOHAWK IRONWORKERS AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER, TINTYPE PHOTOGRAPHS BY MELISSA CACCIOLA
Mohawk ironworkers have shaped the skylines of North American cities for more than 100 years. This exhibition explores the intergenerational connections between this community and the World Trade Center and features 30 tintype portraits by New York City–based artist Melissa Cacciola of Mohawk members of the Local 40 ironworkers’ union.
“Skywalkers” is accompanied by a brand-new audio guide tour featuring the voices of artist Melissa Cacciola and Mohawk ironworkers Lindsay LeBorgne and Jeff Morris. The tour will be available in both the English and Mohawk languages. This is the first time the Museum has translated an audio tour into an indigenous language. PODCAST SEASON 2
OUR CITY. OUR STORY. is a collection of stories of resilience and hope surrounding 9/11, as told today by New Yorkers. Season 2 featured such prominent personalities as:
MISSION TO REMEMBER
Mission to Remember is an original documentary series chronicling the untold stories of honor and remembrance at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
A recent contribution to the series, “Working with Four-Legged Friends,” introduces canine handler Mike Racioppo and his canine friend Hatter, who are both regular fixtures on the Memorial plaza. This entry joins “Caring for the Memorial Pools,” which follows the 9/11 Memorial staff responsible for the upkeep of the Memorial pools as a profound space of reflection.
THE SURVIVOR TREE
Each year, seedlings from the Survivor Tree are given to three communities that have endured tragedy. A total of 18 cities have been selected as part of the seedling distribution program since September 2013.

BUILDING THE 9/11 MEMORIAL GLADE
This dedicated space will honor the ongoing sacrifice of rescue, recovery, and relief workers, as well as the survivors and members of the broader lower Manhattan community who are sick, injured, or have died from the exposure to the toxins at the World Trade Center site in the aftermath of 9/11; it will also recognize the courage, selflessness and perseverance of the men and women of the rescue and recovery effort.
The design for the 9/11 Memorial Glade includes a pathway that mirrors the location of the main ramp used by the rescue and recovery works to remove debris from the site. Stone monoliths, whose design incorporates World Trade Center steel, will flank the path, breaking the surface of the Memorial plaza and rising skyward. The 9/11 Memorial’s original architects, Michael Arad and Peter Walker, returned to design this new tribute ensuring the site’s aesthetic continuity and sacredness.
Former host of “The Daily Show” Jon Stewart, who has advocated for 9/11 health benefits, is helping to lead a major fundraising effort, including serving as chair of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum 5K Run/Walk and Community Day in 2019. All proceeds from the annual event, which is presented by RXR, will support Glade construction. Also, New York State, through its affiliates, the Building Trades Unions and Bloomberg Philanthropies are providing lead support and funding.
